Benefits of the course

Your driving licence returned earlier

For whatever reason you need to regain your driving licence sooner, (family, work, social, mobility) we will help you to get back on the road and back to normal – quicker. If you are referred by the Court to attend a Drink Drive Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS) training course, once completed, your period of disqualification can be reduced.

Save on motor insurance

Insurers often give discounts for completing our training course, and while premiums depend on factors like driving history, age, and vehicle type, a drink driving conviction usually leads to an increase. Attending a DDRS course can reduce this increase. While premium savings can't be guaranteed, many past attendees report savings of £50-£400, outweighing the course cost over 2-3 years.

Less likely to re-offend?

After the nationwide expansion of the DDR Scheme in January 2000, the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) was tasked by DfT to evaluate the scheme's effectiveness and courses offered by organizations. The research showed significant benefits for all offenders taking a DDRS course. Offenders not attending a DDRS course were 2 to 3 times more likely to reoffend compared to those who completed a course, according to the TRL report.

About the course

In order to complete the course, you will need to demonstrate that you have been successfully rehabilitated by taking full responsibility for your offence and actively showing a willingness to make future behavioural changes. Because the first stage of rehabilitation is acceptance, you will be asked to talk openly about the circumstances of your arrest before moving forward to implement positive changes. The majority of the course is discussion based, often in small groups with the other course attendees.

All of our training team are leading driver trainers (Approved Driving Instructors) and/or ex-emergency service personnel. In addition to this they have a teaching qualification and a qualification in substance misuse as a bare minimum. All have vast experience in coaching experienced drivers and delivering behavioural change programmes.
But most importantly they are drivers, and just like every other driver they experience challenges on the road every day.
Sessions are varied and engaging. We often have guest speakers who have specialist knowledge in related but different fields.

Learn More About Us

Certainly not. The aim of the course titled ‘Your Road Ahead’ is to ensure that you have sufficient information to make a value judgment about your alcohol consumption and your ability to drive safely. We will work as a team through the ‘Cycle of Change’ while challenging attitudes and beliefs to alcohol and driving behaviour. You will have the opportunity to devise coping strategies for the future and develop a lifestyle action plan.

There are no pass or fail examinations as such, however you will have to complete a short quiz at the end of each day to ensure that you have understood the course and are paying attention. You will be expected to participate to the best of your ability and make a positive contribution. You are welcome to take notes, although not a requirement, but you will be required to fill in the comprehensive course booklet throughout the course, which will be provided to you.
Our course consists of discussions, group exercises, games, fun quizzes, questionnaires & handouts.

You can choose to either attend the course from the convenience of your own home, online via Zoom or in the classroom at locations all over England & Scotland. We have chosen relaxed, safe and stress free venues to ensure that your attendance is in an enjoyable learning environment. All venues are within easy walking distance of rail and bus routes and you should find one within 30 miles of where you live.
We have chosen venues that provide ease of access e.g. wheelchairs etc. and facilities such as male, female and accessible washrooms with hot and cold water available.

If the Court refers you, we will contact you as soon as we receive your details to make arrangements for you to attend a course. Occasionally, we do not receive your details from the Court, so if you have not heard from us within 14 days of your court case, you should contact us immediately.
We offer a wide range of venues. However, it is important that you do not leave the booking of the course until the last moment. Training courses are not held on a consecutive basis at every venue; some can have a several month gap between courses.
The rules and guidelines governing the DDR Scheme are controlled by legislation. This means BY LAW we are not allowed to train you beyond your completion date set by the Court. There are NO exceptions to this.

What others say

I was really dreading it, and had put it off to the last possible moment. I didn't really know what to expect but was really pleasantly surprised. The teachers put us at ease straight away and I can honestly say it was one of the best training courses I've been on. Although I will add that I never want to repeat the experience! :) They made things as light-hearted as they could be, making us laugh throughout, but making sure the seriousness of why we all there wasn't lost. A great skill! The content of the course was really educational and supportive and has given me a lot to think about and use to make positive changes. Many thanks to all.

I chose this course because it was the cheapest available and the venue was the closest to me. I was surprised at the large spectrum of people on the course, all ages, experiences and backgrounds. Although I have not been driving long, there was a lot to learn about driving as well as alcohol. The course was very interactive and everyone got involved. Other attendees were very friendly and the driving instructors were really nice too and quite funny. I could say that I would recommend the course to my friends, (or maybe not - if you know what I mean)

I am a real technophobe and was very worried about this course being on Zoom as I have never done anything like it before, but it was really easy and I received lots of help from the people at Aspire. I am recently bereaved and was dreading going on this course, as I expected it to upset me by revisiting the traumatic experience that brought me there in the first place. The course was very informative and I confronted a lot of issues, which strangely now help me to feel more at peace. The tutors are very sympathetic and understanding. There was a real comradely feel to the course with everyone there being very supportive. I have actually made a few friends, which I intend to keep in touch with. Yes, a very worthwhile course.

I am amazed! I only went on the course so I could get my licence back earlier for work reasons – but was pleasantly surprised. I was quite nervous, as I have not been in a classroom environment since I was at school. I expected the worst and to be treated like a child or even a criminal, but instead the trainers were friendly and very respectful and spoke to us on a level without being at all judgemental. I was expecting the police, but the trainers were driving instructors. The course was in fact a real eye opener – and dare I say, I actually enjoyed it? Thank you, guys for making the experience a positive one.
